Each file is encrypted with its own unique AES-256-GCM key. At the deadline, we destroy the encryption keys. Without the key, the encrypted file data is mathematically unrecoverable, even by us.
No. Clients receive a unique secure link and can upload or download files immediately. No apps to install, no passwords to remember. Optional PIN protection adds a second factor without any account setup.
Your files are encrypted and stored on our servers while the drop is active. "0 bytes retained" means after the deadline, encryption keys are destroyed and file data is wiped. Nothing persists. During the active window, files are protected by AES-256-GCM encryption with per-file keys stored separately from file data.
DeadVault is built to meet IRS Publication 4557 requirements for tax preparers, GLBA safeguards for financial data, and HIPAA technical safeguard requirements. We're pursuing SOC 2 Type II certification. BAAs are available on Enterprise plans.
